THE EASIEST, MOST PROFITABLE MAIL ORDER BUSINESS OF THEM ALLTo be rich - to have an endless supply of money for anything and everything is the goal of almost everyone. People who would like to have money enough for the things they've always wanted are continually searching for some secret combination that will open the doors to unlimited wealth. Sooner or later, many of these people turn to mail order selling as the pathway down which they hope to find the fulfillment of their dreams. And why not? Mail order gives the prospective buyer the opportunity to shop for literally millions of items without leaving the comfort of his home. Last year, mail order buyers spent more than $63 billion dollars. $63 billion! Over half of all Americans make at least one purchase through the mail each year. You can become a part of this fast growing industry today. Mail order buyers are constantly bombarded with fabulous, get rich quick opportunity offers in their mail boxes. In just about every magazine one finds full page advertisements promising untold riches for just clipping and sending in the attached coupon. Each and every one of these opportunity offers seems to promise complete fulfillment of the reader's needs, wants, and desires. They all make it sound as if the only thing one has to do is sign up, send in a small fee to get the details, and almost immediately the mail box will begin to overflow with letters containing cash, checks, and money orders. Most of these schemes promise no big investment, little or no business knowledge, and especially no need to work very hard to gain millionaire status. Unfortunately, all of this is merely advertising hype, designed to lure the reader into believing the product or offer will be the fulfillment of all his dreams. So overwhelmed by the achievement of their desires offered by the advertisement, too many readers only see what they want to see in these opportunity offers. They ignore the logical pitfalls of such schemes, and can only visualize the pot of gold at the end of the promised rainbow. While there is a great deal of money to be made through legitimate mail order sales - many have and are continuing to do so - most get rich quick offers are only successful for the person placing the ad. The people who respond to the offer are too often left with less money than they started and suspicious of future legitimate offers. The opportunity offers for "riches beyond your wildest dreams" can be divided into two basic categories: Multi-Level Offers and Single-Product Dealerships. Multi-Level Offers include those programs commonly known as chain letters. The offer presents itself as originating with someone from a simple background who hit upon this fabulous idea, started with a minimal investment of time and money, and within a few weeks had more money coming in than he could count. His is now vacationing in some tropical paradise, never having to work again. The letter goes on to instruct you to send approximately $5 for some short report, recipe, or birthday greeting to three to five individuals whose addresses are listed on the sheet. You in turn, take the bottom name off the list, replace it with your own, and send out copies of the letter. Recipients will supposedly send you money asking for your report, recipe, or whatever. Although these letters may be within the law, they usually are not successful. The chain generally breaks down along the way, and the sender loses not only the investment spent in mailing out from one hundred to several thousand letters, but has wasted his time, effort, and enthusiasm. The other kind of money-making plan that the dream-fulfillment advertisements offer is a single product Mail Order Dealership of your own. You generally are required to purchase a sample of some product and a book detailing all the procedures for making millions in mail order sales. Included with your guidebook is a camera-ready circular advertising the product (the same one to which you responded) and a dealership instruction sheet. This is often a worthless piece of sales copy explaining how everyone in all parts of the world is just waiting for the chance to buy one of the products from you. After all, you were eager to buy it, weren't you? The instruction sheet goes on to explain that all you've got to do is either order a supply of these circulars (at inflated printing costs) or take the camera-ready copy to your near-by quick print shop and have it reprinted with your name and address on the order coupon. From there, you simply send these circulars out to waiting buyers, deduct 50% from each order you receive as your gross income, forward the customer's name, order, and the remaining 50% of the sales price on to the people from whom you bought your product, and you're supposedly home free! Two very important factors of this plan must be considered before anticipating any income. Profits have to be weighed against your costs of making each sale. However, even before these factors can be considered the prospective seller must be sure of the "mass appeal" of the product he's about to offer, and the availability of prospective customers. In other words, it's the general appeal of the individual book or product and the use of the correct mailing list that makes a product saleable. These are the ultimate factors that will decide whether or not your efforts result in success and profits, or failure and costly debts. Assuming you've understood our discussion thus far, you're probably thinking that supplying the needs of the mail order sellers is where all the big money is being made in mail order. And you're absolutely right! Meeting the needs of the mail order seller or distributor has always been and always will be the biggest profit maker in direct marketing. The rental of lists containing the names and address of people seeking money-making opportunities are the easiest way to make a lot of money in the mail order industry. It takes a minimum of 10,000 names to begin a successful business. Anything less will result in the base list being over-used before enough new names are added to meet demand. Having your advertising in place several weeks or months before you begin operation will also allow you to develop a good base of names from which to draw. Names can be maintained most efficiently on a simple home computer. With prices as low as $400 for a good system (plus a printer) you can get started as a professional mailing list service. Numerous software packages (computer programs) are available to help you easily input, store, and print the names for your list. A simple dot matrix printer will be sufficient to print out the mailing lists, handling either plain paper or peel and stick labels with equal ease. As your business increases, you can increase the number of computers you operate, your storage capacity, or enlarge your operation with a more powerful computer system to handle the load. The next important ingredient is your subscriber solicitation sales letter. You must have a sales letter that appeals to the needs of your prospective buyer, and at the same time, solves an outstanding problem for him. A sample copy of the List Services' sales letter is included at the end of this report. It pulls very well for List Services, and there is no reason it cannot work equally as well for you. Use it as an example of how to write such sales letters. With this pattern in front of you, you can write an even better one. Get one of your letters out to all the mail order sellers of which you know of or can locate. Establish a plan to systematically contact as many of these dealers as soon as possible. You can compile a list of hundreds of mail order operators each week from incoming mail order offers you receive or through any mail order publications you run across. Enter these names into your computer database daily. Continue adding to this file of mail order dealers. Every week get a thousand sales letters out in the mail.Sending only one or two hundred letters per week just won't pull in the orders fast enough for you. Send out five thousand letters per week and you'll soon be making an excellent income, over and above your printing and postage costs! Just 10 subscribers would give you $100 per week, or 20 subscribers, $200 per week. From there, you're limited only by your efforts to bring in new subscribers. When List Services started it's service, they sent out 1,000 sales letters the first week. From those first letters they came up with 25 subscribers. Needless to say, they have continued to build their subscriber list and can truthfully say that this division of their business is not only the easiest to operate, but is definitely the most profitable of the entire operation!
